GENERAL MIDI and the SMF FORMAT

Standard Midi files are like "midi records", recorded like audio tracks for an album. yet can play on your home computer or sequencer. Using MIDI software, these midi files can be played back, examined, modified and rearranged to conform to your particular studio setup.

All of our files are created using the General Midi configuration, but can easily be changed to adapt to any midi devices you may have. Drum parts are also created with the General Midi format.

If you have a GM device such as the Roland Sound Canvas, our files will play "right out of the box". All files are pre-assigned with the correct instrumentation and are pre-mixed, so all you have to do is load it and hit 'play". Even if your studio is not General Midi capable, you can easily modify each file for use with your equipment.

The SMF format is a great learning and practice tool. Midi files offer more control of musical elements (tempo, key, instrumentation) than the cassette tape or compact disc. It's like having a live band at your disposal 24 hours a day!
