Take a listen to these solos that you can be
playing in no-time!

A play-along improvisation tutor which has something extra that
really sets it apart from the rest of the pack.
- Each version contains a comprehensive explanation of
basic music theory including the construction and use of various chords and scales.
- Songs based on the progressions of popular jazz
standards.
- Sample solos provided are easily playable for most
ability levels, yet possess all the qualities of a 'professional ' jazz solo.
- Variety of styles covered - from Swing to Funk, Latin to
Rock.
- Each version has solos indigenous to that instrument;
not simply the same solo transposed in three different keys.
- All solos are carefully transcribed and annotated with
explanations of specific measures of interest.
- Tape includes versions of the exact transcribed solo as
well as the basic background play-along track. This enables the student to hear what a
particular rhythm or phrase should sound like, allowing greater chance of performing it
correctly and with the appropriate style.
- All backgrounds created in MIDI format - available on
cassette (included with book), or available in Standard MIDI file
format for a nominal fee.
Like others, you can play the tune from the leadsheet and then
practice thechanges along with a background rhythm section. The big difference is that we
include a complete transcribed solo for the user to play and hear.
Now the student has a concrete example of an improvised solo
played correctly across the changes. In addition, each solo includes some analysis of the
interesting scale choices and articulations used in the solo. What a great learning tool!
Different solos are used and transcribed in the distinct Alto
(Eb) Tenor (Bb) and Concert (C) books. Sax doublers will want to buy both
books for twice the example solos as they are different for each version.
(Make sure to specify Alto, Tenor
or Concert versions when ordering!)
